The cylindrical roller bearings are separable type bearings .This type of bearings is divided into single-row,double-row and four-row cylindrical roller bearings according to the row of rollers.

Cylindrical roller bearings mostly consist of the cage, the rollers and guided by two capped edges on a ring. It is a separable bearing, convenient for it's assembly and disassembly especially it has the advantages in a condition that the interference is required and assorted with inner ring, outer ring and housing. The bearing of this type can normally take the radial load, on the other hand, single row cylindrical roller bearing with ribbed inner ring and ribbed outer ring can take smaller axial load or intermittent axial load, this kind of bearing has a larger carrying capacity of axial load compare with the deep-grooves ball bearing. The structure of the bearing showing that it runs very well under high rotational speed.

Cylindrical roller bearings without outer ring capped edge

The NU cylindrical roller bearing has double capped edges on outer ring and without capped edge on inner ring
The N cylindrical roller bearing has double capped edges on inner ring and without capped edge on outer ring
The NU and N cylindrical roller bearings, the shaft is allowed two-way displacement toward the bearing box, i.e. the cylindrical roller bearings can bear the change of shaft length due to thermal expansion. Thus It is suitable to serve as a non-fixed bearing. It can bear larger radial load, but cannot take axial load.

The NJ cylindrical roller bearing has double capped edge on outer ring and single capped edge on inner ring.
The NF cylindrical roller bearing with the single capped edge on outer ring & double capped edges on inner ring
The NJ & NF cylindrical roller bearing, the axial-displacement of the shaft or housing on one-direction can be limited. The one-direction axial positioning can be reached. It can burden smaller axial load from one-direction.
The NUP cylindrical roller bearing with double capped edges on the outer ring & with capped edge on one side of the inner ring, as well as with inner ring loose rib on the other side of the inner ring. The two-way axial positioning toward the shaft can be reached. The bearing can bear two-way axial force. The NUP & N cylindrical roller bearings can be chosen for the structure. The NJ and HJ cylindrical roller bearing with separate thrust collar is similar to the NUP cylindrical roller bearing, it can be used as the fixed (positioning) bearing.
Cylindrical roller bearings without inner ring or without outer ring
The RNU cylindrical roller bearing has an outer ring with double capped edges but does not come with inner ring. Such bearing is the NU cylindrical roller bearings without the inner ring
The RN cylindrical roller bearing has an inner ring with double capped edge but does not come with outer ring.
The RNU and RN cylindrical roller bearing are used with a component having a limitation on radial dimension. The axial journal or the surface of the housing bore can be used as the raceways. The hardness and the machining precision as well as the surface quality should be same as the raceways of the inner ring and the outer ring.
Cylindrical roller bearings with full complement (rollers)
Using double capped edges on the outer ring and single capped edges on the inner ring. i.e. type of NJ.V, NUP.V, RNU.V, etc. It has the advantage of great load rating and simple structure in comparison with the roller bearing which has the similar structure and has cage. In condition that rotation speed and working temperature is not high, good lubrication condition and the cleanliness of the bearing box is also relatively good then it has the first priority to use of the full complement (rollers) structure.
Full complement cylindrical roller bearing

The dimensions of E type cylindrical roller bearing are same as the dimensions of the ordinary type. But the load carrying capacity is increased accordingly due to the increasing of the diameter of rollers, the length and the number of rollers. An additional 'E' is added at the end of the designation to represent this kind of cylindrical roller bearings, besides the diameter of the roller's inscribed circle is difference from the ordinary type bearings. 1. Single-row cylindrical roller bearings
The single-row cylindrical roller bearings are usually used to carry radial loads,their rollers contact raceway with line-contact.Therefore,by comparison with radial ball bearings with the same size,their radial load carrying capacity is high (1.5~3 times),and can carry shock loads,have better stiffness,but can't carry axial loads.
The single-row cylindrical roller bearings are separable type bearings .The cages,rollers and rings are assembled to a unit,and can be separated from another ring.This type of bearings is easy to be mounted and dismounted.
Type N cylindrical roller bearings have inner ring with both ribs and outer ring without rib.Type NU cylindrical roller bearings have outer ring with both ribs and inner ring without rib.Type N and NU cylindrical roller bearings are all free end bearings ,separable,easy to be mounted and dismounted.Type NJ bearings have inner ring with single rib and outer ring with both ribs.This type of bearings can carry axial load in one direction.Type NF bearings have inner ring with both ribs and outer ring with single rib.
The cylindrical roller bearings are not capable of limiting axial displacement of shaft(housing).If the axial displacement is not permitted,they are usually used with other types of bearinfs(e.g..deep groove ball bearings ).
This type of bearings is usually used to carry radial loads.
The single-row bearings with rib on inner and outer rings are capable of carrying certain axial load or higher short period axial loads.
The misalignment relative to housing is not permitted for cylindrical roller bearings ,but 2'angular misalignment between inner ring and outer ring is permitted.If the loads are higher,the more angular misalignment is permitted,but limiting value is 4' .
When the outer diameter D<=400mm,single-row cylindrical roller bearing are commonly fitted with pressed steel cages,for outer diameter D>400mm,machined steel or brass solid cages are used.
The single-row cylindrical roller bearings are mainly used in large eletric motors,machine tool spindles,axial boxes of rail vehicles,and gear boxes of automotives and tractors.
2. Double-row cylindrical roller bearings have two structures with cylindrical bore and tapered bore.This type of bearings possesses higher stiffness and load carrying capacity,and are especially applied to spindles of machine tools.Type NN has both ribs on inner ring and no rib on outer rings.Type NNU has both ribs on outer ring and no rib on inner rings.Above two types of bearings are not capable of limiting axial displacement between shafts and housings,so they are used as floating bearings .
The machined solid cages are usually used for this type of bearings .
3. Four-row cylindrical roller bearings
The four-row cylindrical roller bearings are the one of the main bearings for rolling mills.They have compact structure,higher stiffness and radial load carrying capacity,but not capable of carrying axial load.Because of no rib on inner rings,so inner rings and outer ring assemblies(a set of rollers and cages) can be mounted respectively,cleaning ,inspecting and dismounting are very convenient.
This type of bearings have higher precision,and the bearings itself has lower friction comparing with other bearings .Therefore,four-row cylindrical roller bearings are especially applied to high speed and high precision rolling mill,big mills,etc.
The machined solid brass cages and pin-type cages are used for four-row cylindrical roller bearings .
4. Full complement cylindrical roller bearings
The full complement cylindrical roller bearings are divided into single-row full complement cylindrical roller bearings (NCF) and double-row full complement cylindrical roller bearings .
The full complement cylindrical roller bearings have no cages,so they can be assembled with the greast number of roller ;they have very high load carryings capacity.By comparison with the bearings with cages,they are not suitable for high speed applications.The open-type single and double rows bearings are primarily used in general mechanical equipments under lower speed and heavier loads.The double-row bearings with seals primarily are used in pulley of cranes.
